Germany clinched its fourth ATP World Team Championship Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Argentina.
The doubles team of Tommy Haas and Alexander Waske clinched the winning point in the decisive doubles, overcoming Guillermo Canas and Guillermo Coria, 6-1, 6-2.
Coria's 6-1, 6-1 victory over Florian Mayer gave Argentina a 1-0 lead, but Haas tied the score with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Roland Garros champion Gaston Gaudio.
Germany earned its fourth title in Duesseldorf and first in seven years. The Germans were also victorious in 1989, 1994 and 1998. Argentina was attempting to win its third title overall and second in three years (1980, 2002).
In the Round Robin stage, Germany topped the Blue Group with wins over the United States, Sweden and Spain, while Argentina finished first in the Red Group with victories over the Czech Republic, France and two-time defending champion Chile.
The Germans claimed $413,000, while Argentina earned $270,000. Dusseldorf serves as a final French Open tuneup.
