The Oakland Athletics got back one of their key injured players back in time for the team's final playoff push, as shortstop Bobby Crosby was activated from the 15-day disabled list and inserted into the starting lineup for Monday's game against Minnesota.
Crosby has made a quick return from a fractured left ankle suffered in an August 27th game at Baltimore, the reigning American League Rookie of the Year's second significant injury this season. He also missed the season's first two months after breaking two ribs on Opening Day, which also came at Camden Yards.
The second-year standout finished 0-for-2 with a walk and scored a run in the Athletics' 7-6 victory, which moved the club within 1 1/2 games of the LA Angels of Anaheim for first place in the AL West.
Crosby has been a sparkplug for Oakland when healthy. In 78 games this season, he is batting .284 with nine home runs and 33 RBI. Most importantly, the A's are 56-25 in games in which he has been on the active roster in 2005.
Crosby captured the 2004 AL Rookie of the Year award after hitting 22 homers and knocking in 64 runs last season.
