The Kansas City Royals placed first baseman Ken Harvey on the 15-day disabled list with a sore back prior to their 9-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
In a related move, Kansas City purchased the contract of righthander Ryan Jensen, who earned the win in Sunday's contest. In five innings, he surrendered two runs and three hits, mixing in three strikeouts and three walks.
It was his first start since April of 2003, while with the San Francisco Giants.
Harvey, the Royals' lone All-Star representative a year ago, surprisingly started the year at Triple-A Omaha after a season which saw him hit .287 with 13 home runs and 55 RBI in 120 games.
In 12 games this year the 27-year-old Harvey is batting .222 with one home run and five RBI.
