Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts had successful surgery Friday on his injured left elbow.
Roberts underwent ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery in Cincinnati, Ohio and is expected to be sidelined six months.
He sustained the injury on September 20 after being forced to leave a 12-9 loss against the New York Yankees with a dislocated elbow.
In the bottom of the second inning versus New York, Yankees outfielder Bubba Crosby laid down a bunt. Roberts shifted over to cover first base on the play and received the throw.
As Crosby crossed the bag, he swiped the left arm of Roberts, who immediately fell to the ground in pain. Roberts had to be helped off the field and was replaced by Chris Gomez.
Roberts' elbow was then put back into place in the training room.
In 143 games this season, the 27-year-old Roberts batted .314 with 18 homers and 73 runs batted in.
