Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio will return for a 19th season with the club, as he came to terms on a one-year contract extension Sunday.
The Houston Chronicle reports the deal is worth $4 million.
Biggio's contract was announced Sunday, following Houston's 6-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs, as the Astros clinched the NL wild card for a second consecutive year.
The 39-year-old Biggio, a seven-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, finished this season with a .264 average, 26 homers and 69 RBI. He ended one homer shy of Jeff Kent's franchise record for homers by a second baseman in a season (27 in 2004).
Biggio is the only player in major league history to reach at least 600 doubles, 250 homers, 2,700 hits, and 400 stolen bases. He is the all-time NL leader among second basemen in doubles. He also holds the MLB modern record with 273 times hit by a pitch.
Biggio will enter the 2006 season 205 hits shy of 3,000 for his career.
