The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim scratched pitcher Jarrod Washburn from his scheduled start on Sunday in Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees because of a throat infection.
New York eventually won the game 3-2 and evened the best-of-five series at two games apiece.
Instead of Washburn, the Angels started John Lackey on just three days' rest. Lackey, who started Game 2, allowed one run on only two hits over 5 2/3 innings Sunday. He fanned six and walked four, but did not figure into the decision.
Game 5 will be played Monday night in Anaheim and will feature New Yoek's Mike Mussina opposing the Angels' Bartolo Colon.
