As expected, the Chicago Bears released cornerback R.W. McQuarters on Monday. The Bears had been trying to trade the seven-year veteran. McQuarters, who played in 72 games with 47 starts in five seasons with the Bears, was a no-show at mini-camp this past weekend. He was acquired in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers on June 5, 2000. "After exploring trade opportunities with R.W., we felt it was in everyone's best interest to release him at this time," said general manager Jerry Angelo. "We respect and appreciate his accomplishments as a Bear and wish him well." In his five seasons in Chicago, McQuarters registered 295 tackles and nine interceptions. He averaged 10.6 yards on 93 punt returns. He also scored five touchdowns, three on defense and two on special teams.
