Cleveland Browns cornerback Gary Baxter was placed on the injured-reserve list, the team announced Tuesday.
Baxter underwent surgery on Monday to repair a torn pectoral muscle he suffered in the first quarter of Sunday's 13-10 loss to Detroit.
Baxter, who was signed to a contract in the offseason after spending his first four years in Baltimore, had surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
The 26-year-old Baxter, who played collegiately at Baylor, has 275 career tackles (233 solo), including a total of 22 stops this season, and seven career interceptions.
To fill Baxter's roster spot, rookie wide receiver Brandon Rideau was promoted from the practice squad while linebacker Clifton Smith took Rideau's place on the practice squad.
