Baltimore outfielder Sammy Sosa was activated from the 15-day disabled list and was in the lineup during Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Seattle at Camden Yards.
Sosa, who had not played since May 4 because of an abscess staph infection in his left foot, went 0-for-2 but drove in a key run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
The future Hall-of-Famer, who is five homers shy of Mark McGwire (583) on the all-time home run list, is batting .264 with just four home runs and 14 RBI in 28 games during his first season with the surprising Orioles.
In a related move, the Orioles designated catcher Sal Fasano for assignment. Fasano, whose contract was purchased by Baltimore on May 11, was 3-for-9 with a pair of homers and three RBI in four games.
