The Cleveland Indians have exercised the 2006 contract option on second baseman Ronnie Belliard.
Belliard has spent the last two seasons with the Tribe after signing as a free agent in December 2003. He earned his first-ever All-Star Game invite in 2004 and this past season hit a solid .284 with 36 doubles and career highs of 17 homers and 78 runs batted in over 145 games.
The 30-year-old committed just 13 errors in 683 total chances and compiled the fifth-best fielding percentage among American League second basemen at .981.
In two seasons with the Indians, Belliard has batted a combined .283 with 29 home runs and 148 RBI in 297 games. He had a career-best 48 doubles in 2004.
Belliard began his big league career with Milwaukee in 1998 and spent five seasons with the Brewers before playing the 2003 campaign with Colorado. He is a career .272 hitter with 67 homers and 372 RBI in 902 major league games.
