The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder Frank Catalanotto on the bereavement list Tuesday.
Catalanotto is hitting .281 this season with one homer and 12 runs batted in. He will be inactive for a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven.
The 31-year-old Catalanotto signed with Toronto as a free agent in December of 2002 and has also played for Detroit and Texas.
In a related move, the Blue Jays recalled outfielder Gabe Gross from Triple-A Syracuse of the International League. The 25-year-old Gross batted .236 with one home run and 12 RBI in 37 games with Syracuse.
Gross was Toronto's first-round pick in the 2001 First Year Player Draft.
