The Toronto Blue Jays activated catcher Gregg Zaun from the 15-day disabled list prior to the start of their three-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
Zaun had been sidelined since suffering a severe concussion back on May 8 when he was kneed in the head by Chicago second baseman Pedro Lopez while breaking up a double play in the ninth inning of a 5-4 loss. He lay motionless in the dirt before being fitted with an oxygen mask and a head and neck brace, then was carted off the field.
The 34-year-old Zaun is hitting .275 with three homers and 20 RBI in 28 games this season.
In a related move, the Blue Jays optioned catcher Andy Dominique to Syracuse of the International League. Dominique was hitless in two at-bats with Toronto.
Earlier in the day on Tuesday, the Blue Jays placed outfielder Frank Catalanotto on the bereavement list and recalled outfielder Gabe Gross from Syracuse.
