The Cleveland Indians announced Monday that the team has re-signed pitcher Scott Sauerbeck to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2007 season. As per team policy, financial terms were not released.
The lefthander was a part of Major League Baseball's best bullpen last year, as he went 1-0 with a 4.04 ERA in 58 appearances.
"We are excited that Scott will again be part of our club," said Cleveland Indians executive vice president & general manager Mark Shapiro. "Scott had a strong desire to stay in Cleveland and wanted to be a part of our future. We are looking forward to him again filling a crucial role in our bullpen."
Sauerbeck, 33, signed with Cleveland in March 2004 after spending the entire 2004 season rehabbing from left shoulder surgery.
In 424 career appearances, Sauerbeck has compiled a 20-16 record with a 3.74 earned run average while also playing with Pittsburgh and Boston.
