FC Dallas midfielder Ronnie O'Brien was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week after helping his team to a pair of victories.
O'Brien had a total of two goals and two assists in wins over Colorado and CD Chivas USA. FC Dallas grabbed the top spot in the Western Division with the six points, moving ahead of the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The 26-year-old O'Brien started an FC Dallas comeback on Wednesday. With his team trailing 1-0 at the half, the Irishman scored his third goal of the season just minutes into the second half to even the score. FC Dallas went on to post a 2-1 home win, its first victory in 41 matches when trailing at the break.
FC Dallas later recorded a 5-2 rout Sunday night on the road against Chivas. O'Brien had a goal and two assists in the contest. He set up his team's first two strikes, then scored a goal of his own early in the second half to put FC Dallas ahead 3-1.
O'Brien is the first FC Dallas player to win the award this season. Personally, this is his second career honor, as he was also named Player of the Week late last season.
