The Chicago Cubs announced Thursday they have reached an agreement with relief pitcher Bobby Howry on a three-year contract worth a reported $12 million.
The deal will become official after Howry passes a physical, scheduled for this weekend in Chicago.
Howry spent the past two years with the Cleveland Indians and appeared in 79 games last season, recording a 7-4 mark and a 2.47 earned run average.
The 32-year-old Howry has pitched in 434 games (460 1/3 innings) during his career and owns a 25-26 record with a 3.58 ERA.
The announcement comes one week after the Cubs inked Scott Eyre to a three- year deal in an effort to retool their bullpen. Eyre and Howry were teammates on the Chicago White Sox from 1998-2000.
