Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid did not rule out the possibility that running back Brian Westbrook may return this season.
The organization originally said that Westbrook would be out for the remainder of the year after suffering a Lis Franc sprain in his right foot against Seattle on Monday night.
However, the 5-8 tailback has not been moved to the injured reserve list and Reid intimated at his Friday press conference that the injury might not be as bad as originally feared.
"Brian saw Dr. Meyerson, the foot specialist, and he wants to revisit with Brian next week. So, we have not made any roster moves at this time," Reid said.
"There is a good chance he does not need the surgery. That is the positive with this thing. Right now, most likely that will be the case."
Westbrook, who recently signed a five-year contract extension, has rushed for 617 yards on 156 attempts while catching 61 passes for 616 yards with a combined seven touchdowns this year.
In Philadelphia's latest setback against the Seahawks on Monday, a 42-0 thrashing, Westbrook had nine carries for 17 yards and five receptions for 38 yards. He left the contest after the team's first possession with what was originally called a foot sprain, but later returned.
Westbrook will miss Sunday's game against the New York Giants, and Ryan Moats is likely to split time with Reno Mahe and Lamar Gordon in his absence.
