Winslow apologizes for motorcycle accident

Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow apologized on Thursday for his motorcycle accident back on May 1. "I want to first and foremost thank the Cleveland Browns organization, the coaching staff, medical staff, my teammates and fans of the Cleveland Browns who have continued to pray for my recovery," Winslow said in a statement. "I cannot express how moved I am by the support and words of encouragement I have received from all over the country." Although, nobody in Winslow's camp has discussed the extent of the injuries, numerous reports have stated that the former first-round pick sustained a torn right ACL and will miss the upcoming season Surgery is expected this month and Winslow will likely need 10-to-12 months of rehabilitation. "To those members of the Cleveland Browns family who I have disappointed by my decision to ride a motorcycle, I humbly apologize," Winslow added. "In hindsight it was unwise to attempt to learn to ride a motorcycle without a professional instructor in a controlled environment. While many of you are disappointed that I will not be on the field with my teammates for this upcoming season, no one is more disappointed in this fact than me." The 21-year-old Winslow was released from the Cleveland Clinic on May 10 after being hospitalized nine days for injuries sustained in the accident. Winslow, fresh off an injured rookie season with the Browns, was riding a motorcycle when he apparently hit a curb and was thrown from the bike. Winslow, the sixth overall pick in the 2004 draft out of Miami-Florida, had his rookie season cut short after suffering a broken right leg in a Week 2 loss at Dallas. Winslow finished the 2004 campaign with just five catches for 50 yards. "I worked extremely hard to recover from last season's injury. To the entire Cleveland Browns family, I pledge to work twice as hard to recover from the injuries sustained from my motorcycle accident," said Winslow.
