The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired veteran setup man J.C. Romero from the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
The Angels shipped minor league infielder Alexi Casilla to the Twin Cities for the lefty.
Romero, 29, was 4-3 with a 3.47 earned run average in 68 appearances for the Twins in 2005. He limited opponents to a .235 batting average and was especially tough on left-handed hitters, who mustered just a .198 average against him.
Originally taken by the Twins in the 21st round of the 1997 free agent draft, Romero owns a career 25-20 record with a 4.35 ERA.
The lefty also has extensive post-season experience (2002-2004) and hurled against the Angels in the 2002 ALCS.
Casilla, 21, spent the 2005 season climbing the Angels minor league system. He started the year at Single-A Cedar Rapids and finished up at Triple-A Salt Lake.
The infield prospect hit a combined .311 with three home runs, 22 RBI and 49 stolen bases in 98 minor league games.
To make room for Romero on the 40-man roster, the Angels designated catcher Josh Paul for assignment.
Paul batted .189 in 34 games with a pair of homers and four runs batted in for the Angels in 2005.
