Another two days of NHL labor talks conclude

The National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association finished another two days of discussions Thursday, as the two sides continued their steady pace of negotiation. This round of talks marked the fourth consecutive week the parties have sat down at the table. They are expected to convene every week until a new collective bargaining agreement is ironed out. Much like last week's sessions, which included a combined 22 hours at the table on Thursday and Friday, a significant amount of time was spent discussing individual team finances and how they're reported. "We just completed two days of meetings focused on revenue measurement and reporting issues," said NHLPA senior director Ted Saskin. "There is a lot more information to be exchanged between the parties and I expect Bob [Goodenow] and Gary [Bettman] will be scheduling further meetings shortly." The pace of these labor negotiations has increased since Bettman backed off the notion of using replacement players following a Board of Governor's meeting last month. The sense of urgency may increase as well, as Sun Media in Canada reported over the weekend that the NHL might have to get a deal done by mid June in order to stop key sponsors from bailing on the league. The NHL lockout reached its 253rd day on Thursday.
