The New York Yankees announced Friday they have acquired pitcher Ron Villone from the Florida Marlins in exchange for pitcher Ben Julianel.
Villone appeared in 79 games last season with both the Marlins and Seattle Mariners. In 52 appearances with the Mariners, the 35-year-old registered a 2-3 record with a 2.45 ERA and one save. He was then traded to Florida, where he went 3-2 with a 6.85 ERA.
In his career, spanning nine different teams, Villone holds a 52-54 career mark with a 2.58 ERA and 502 strikeouts in 473 games.
The 26-year-old Julianel, meanwhile, finished last season 5-3 with a 3.90 ERA in 46 games with New York's Double-A affiliate, the Trenton Thunder. The Yankees acquired Julianel in 2001 from the Cardinals in a trade that sent pitcher Sterling Hitchcock to St. Louis.
