The Colorado Rockies placed second baseman Aaron Miles on the 15-day disabled list Thursday prior to the start of their four-game series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Miles suffered a right intercostal strain in his team's 11-1 drubbing at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Miles is hitting .297 this season with a home run and 14 RBI. He has also scored 21 times. Last year, Miles led all National League rookies with a .293 batting average and was tops among all major league rookies with 153 hits and 75 runs scored.
In a related move, the Rockies purchased the contract of infielder Eddy Garabito from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Garabito is expected to make his major league debut at some point this weekend
Garabito, who has spent nine full seasons in the minors, was hitting .301 (44- for-146) with six homers and 23 RBI in 39 games for the Sky Sox.
Colorado also transferred right-handed reliever Chin-hui Tsao to the 60- day DL.
