Toronto Blue Jays third baseman/designated hitter Corey Koskie is not expected back in the lineup until July after recent surgery on his thumb.
Koskie had surgery Wednesday to repair a broken right thumb and ligament damage, an injury suffered during a 4-0 loss to Minnesota on May 19. Koskie slid into second base after tagging up on a fly out by Vernon Wells and collided with Minnesota's Luis Rivas on the play.
"Right now, I'm just working on my remote control," Koskie joked Thursday. "I can't do much at all. My hand's in a cast and I can't really move my thumb. Anytime I get up to move, it's like you see on the Flintstones when Fred bangs his thumb. It just throbs. That's what it's like right now.
"The doctor told me to open and close my hand every 10-12 minutes to flush some of the swelling out."
Koskie will meet with doctors each week for X-rays on his hand until the bone has healed.
The 31-year-old Koskie signed a three-year contract with Toronto during the offseason after he spent the first seven years of his career with the Twins, who selected him in the 26th round of the 1994 First Year Player Draft.
He is hitting .248 with seven home runs and 16 RBI this season.
