The St. Louis Cardinals placed third baseman Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list after an MRI on Thursday revealed a sprained left shoulder. The move is retroactive to May 11.
Rolen, who is batting .257 with five home runs and 20 RBI this season, suffered the injury during the fifth inning of Tuesday's loss to Los Angeles when he collided with Dodgers first baseman Hee Seop Choi while running out a ground out to the pitcher.
The injury is unrelated to the separation he suffered during the 2004 playoffs, as it occurred in a different joint of the shoulder.
In a related move, the Cardinals recalled Scott Seabol from Triple-A Memphis.
