Billy Kennedy resigned Thursday as head coach at Southeastern Louisiana. Kennedy has accepted an offer to be associate head coach with the University of Miami Hurricanes.
Kennedy led SE Louisiana to a pair of Southland Conference regular-season titles and its first-ever berth in the NCAA Championships.
"Coach Kennedy and his staff did a wonderful job in returning our program to prominence and laying a successful foundation for the future," said Frank Pergolizzi, director of athletics. "We wish him the best in his new position."
The Lions finished 24-9 in 2004-05, winning the Southland Conference regular- season and tournament titles.
In six seasons as head coach at Southeastern, Kennedy posted an 80-94 record and ranked third in school history in career wins behind Luther Marler and Ken Fortenberry.
After spending 11 years as an assistant that included stops at Cal, Wyoming, Texas A&M, Tulane and Northwestern State, Kennedy came to Southeastern in 1999-2000 after two seasons as head coach at Centenary (La.) College.
Kennedy joins a staff at Miami led by second-year head coach Frank Haith.
