The Chicago White Sox and manager Ozzie Guillen have agreed to a contract extension that will keep the skipper with the Pale Hose through 2008 with an option for 2009.
Guillen, who became the 37th manager in team history prior to the start of last season, has guided the Sox to a major league-best 34-17 record, following Monday's 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
"Very simply, from the day he was hired, Ozzie has brought a sense of pride, spirit and passion back to the White Sox organization," White Sox general manager Ken Williams said. "He is now and forever will be committed to bringing a championship to the White Sox organization and city of Chicago."
The White Sox have held first place in the American League Central every day this season and have owned the best record in baseball every day since April 30.
Guillen, who was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1985, spent 13 of his 16 years in the majors with the White Sox and hit .264 with 28 homers and 619 RB throughout his career. He also played for Baltimore, Atlanta and Tampa Bay before he retired after the 2000 season.
The 41-year-old three-time All-Star started his coaching career as a third base coach with Montreal in 2001 and was also a third base coach for the World Series champion Florida Marlins in 2003.
