Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas was activated off the 15-day disabled list Monday and went 0-for-2 with a walk against the Angels.
Thomas, who made his first appearance since breaking a bone in his left ankle last July, had surgery in October. The return was short-lived, as the two-time American League MVP was forced to leave the game with a strained hip flexor.
Thomas hit third in the lineup as the designated hitter and scored a run before leaving the game in the seventh. His replacement, Timo Perez, drove in two runs in the bottom of the ninth to give Chicago a 5-4 win over the Angels.
The 37-year-old Thomas is in his 16th major league season, all with the White Sox. Thomas has 436 homers and 1,439 RBI in 1,925 contests.
Brandon McCarthy was optioned to Charlotte to make room on the roster for Thomas.
