Chicago State rewarded men's head basketball coach Kevin Jones with a three-year contract extension Thursday.
Jones, whose new pact runs through 2010, compiled a 9-19 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the Mid-Continent Conference this past season, his second full campaign as the Cougars' head coach. In 2003-04 he guided Chicago State to 12 victories, two more than the program had achieved in the previous three seasons combined, and a school-best 9-7 mark in Mid-Continent play.
"Coach Jones has helped develop a solid foundation in our men's basketball program and we are excited about the direction he has the basketball program heading," said CSU athletic director Greg LaFleur. "This extension allows Coach Jones to continue to build our program into a force in the Mid-Continent Conference."
Jones took over the Cougar program on an interim basis for the last 12 games of the 2002-03 season and has amassed a 21-51 overall record at the school, including a 12-20 conference mark.
"We have turned the direction of this program around and I'm glad I have been given some more time to continue and raise the level of this program," Jones remarked
