The Los Angeles Dodgers and pitcher Brad Penny have reportedly agreed on a three-year contract extension, with a fourth-year option that could raise the value of the pact to $32 million.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the completion of the deal is contingent upon Penny passing a physical.
The 27-year-old Penny was acquired by the Dodgers along with Hee-Seop Choi and Bill Murphy from Florida on July 30, 2004 in exchange for Juan Encarnacion, Paul Lo Duca and Guillermo Mota.
Penny had his season come to an end last year after just three starts with Los Angeles due to a right biceps injury. He finished 9-10 in 2004 with a 3.15 ERA in 24 combined starts for the Dodgers and Marlins.
This season, Penny has made nine starts and is 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA.
