LA Angels of Anaheim righthander Kelvim Escobar left Wednesday's start against the Atlanta Braves with discomfort in his right elbow. The Angels wound up winning the game, 8-4.
Escobar, who allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings, is expected to undergo an MRI in New York on Thursday. The Angels will be in town to play the Mets in a weekend series at Shea Stadium.
The 29-year-old Escobar's elbow problems have already landed him on the disabled list twice this season.
"It feels like the same pain I had a couple of weeks ago," said Escobar.
Escobar is 2-2 with a 3.54 ERA in seven starts this season. He has struck out 46 batters in 40 2/3 innings.
The Angels suffered another injury in the game when Jeff DaVanon left in the fourth after trying to make a play in the outfield. Rafael Furcal ripped a shot in the gap and the Angels rightfielder nearly tracked the drive down on the warning track. However, he dropped it just before crashing into the wall. DaVanon was taken to the hospital for x-rays, which revealed a fractured nose.
The 31-year-old DaVanon is hitting .222 with no home runs and six RBI in 46 games this season.
