Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Friday prior to the opener of his team's three-game interleague set with the New York Mets.
The American League's reigning MVP suffered a partial separation of his left shoulder May 20 while sliding into home plate. The injury occurred as the All-Star rightfielder was trying to score from first base on Steve Finley's double.
Guerrero took batting practice prior to Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves and was crushing the ball, according to manager Mike Scioscia.
"He was bugging us last week, saying he had to start swinging if he's going to come off (when he was eligible June 5)," Scioscia told the LA Daily News. "We told him he needed another week."
With Guerrero out of the lineup, the Angels have gone 10-8.
The 29-year-old Guerrero is batting .303 with seven homers and 24 RBI in 41 games this season.
