The Colorado Rockies placed outfielder Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a broken right pinkie. He is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks. Holliday suffered the injury during last Saturday's game against Cincinnati when he made a headfirst dive. After being initially diagnosed with a sprain, Holliday sat out Sunday's contest, but was back in the starting lineup for all three games against the Chicago White Sox. However, he came out of Wednesday's contest after the third inning and later underwent X-rays, which revealed the break. In 54 games this year, Holliday is batting .291 with four homers and 23 RBI. Meanwhile, the club recalled outfielder Jorge Piedra from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Piedra has played in one game for the Rockies in 2005 and singled in his only at-bat. He was suspended for 10 days earlier this year for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
