Paul Dana spun out in turn two during Friday's practice session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The No.91 crashed about two hours into the session. Hornish Jr. then ran over debris from Dana's accident and did a full flip before landing on his right side.
The two-time IndyCar champion got out of his vehicle and was checked and released from the infield Medical Center.
Dr. Henry Bock, IRL and IMS senior director of medical services, said Dana was awake and alert and being transported via ground to Methodist Hospital. He was complaining of back pain.
