The Boston Red Sox activated catcher Doug Mirabelli from the 15-day disabled list prior to Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs.
Mirabelli, who has been sidelined since May 18 due to a sprained left wrist, was in the starting lineup for Sunday's 8-1 win over the Cubs. The 34- year-old backstop and the primary catcher for knuckleballer Tim Wakefield finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Catcher Kelly Shoppach was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move.
Mirabelli is batting .225 with two home runs and six RBI in 14 games this season.
