Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Shawn Green was named the National League Player of the Week for the period of June 6-12. Green led the league with five doubles and 28 total bases and also tied for the NL lead with 12 hits, nine runs scored and 12 RBI.
In seven games last week, Green batted .414 (12-for-29) and also compiled a .966 slugging percentage and a .406 on-base percentage. He belted three homers and finished the week with five multi-hit contests.
Other nominees for the honor were Pat Burrell and Kenny Lofton of the Phillies; Pittsburgh's Daryle Ward, Matt Lawton and Rob Mackowiak; Ken Griffey, Jr., Felipe Lopez and Sean Casey of the Reds; Washington's Chad Cordero and Tony Armas; Hee-Seop Choi and Eric Gagne of the Dodgers; New York's Pedro Martinez; Carlos Delgado of the Marlins; Milwaukee's Carlos Lee; Matt Morris of the Cardinals; Atlanta's Adam LaRoche; and Green's teammates Tony Clark and Alex Cintron.
