Minnesota Twins centerfielder Torii Hunter was named American League Player of the Week on Monday.
Hunter batted .381 with three homers and five runs batted in over six games last week. He also posted a .458 on-base percentage and led the AL in runs scored (nine) and slugging percentage (1.000).
The Twins were 3-3 during the week. Hunter belted two homers and was 4-for-5 in the team's 9-8 victory over Arizona on Tuesday, scoring the go-ahead run in the ninth inning.
This is the first Player of the Week award for Hunter, who was the AL Player of the Month in April 2002.
Among the other candidates for the award -- all of whom play in the AL Central -- was Hunter's teammate Jacque Jones.
