Third-seeded Croat Mario Ancic and oft-injured Aussie slugger Mark Philippoussis were among Tuesday's first-round winners at the grass-court Ordina Open -- a final Wimbledon tune- up.
The 2004 Wimbledon semifinalist Ancic erased Dutch qualifier Paul Logtens 6-4, 6-2, while the 2003 Wimbledon runner-up Philippoussis topped Belgian Christophe Rochus 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) at Autotron Rosmalen.
Veteran Swede Jonas Bjorkman took out sixth-seeded Romanian Andrei Pavel 6-2, 7-6 (7-1), while ninth-seeded Italian Davide Sanguinetti held off 1995 Den Bosch titlist Karol Kucera 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. Pavel was the runner-up here in 1999.
Dutch crowd favorite Sjeng Schalken moved on with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory over German Bjorn Phau. The veteran Schalken captured this event back-to-back in 2002 and 2003.
Other first-round wins came for Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Frenchman Julien Benneteau.
