World No. 1 Roger Federer will battle Richard Gasquet in the final of the Hamburg Masters after both players posted semifinal victories on Saturday.
The Swiss Federer advanced to Sunday's title match with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over 15th-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko. Federer, the reigning U.S. Open, Masters Cup and two-time Wimbledon champ, improved to 19-3 in Hamburg.
The 23-year-old Federer will attempt to claim his third title in the last four years at this event. He defeated Guillermo Coria in the 2004 championship match and also won the title here in 2002.
Federer is now a brilliant 40-2 overall this year, including a co-ATP-leading five titles. He is seeking his sixth title in his last 10 Masters Series events, having captured Masters Series shields at Indian Wells and Miami earlier this season.
Meanwhile, Davydenko fell to 0-6 lifetime against Federer, including an 0-3 mark this year.
In Saturday's other semifinal, the French teen qualifier Gasquet easily disposed of Belgian qualifier Christophe Rochus 6-1, 6-1 in just 56 minutes. Gasquet, who will participate in his first Masters Series final, shocked Federer last month in a quarterfinal match in Monte-Carlo.
The winner of this $2.67 million tournament will claim $436,000.
