San Diego Padres righthander Adam Eaton suffered his first loss in nearly two months during Wednesday's 8-2 defeat at Detroit and left the game in the third inning with a strained flexor tendon on his middle finger.
Eaton was removed after walking Nook Logan with one out in the third. The 27- year-old suffered his worst outing of the season, surrendering a season-high six runs -- three earned -- on seven hits while issuing two walks and hitting a pair of batters.
"He didn't have his good stuff and in the third (inning) he felt something in his middle finger," said Padres manager Bruce Bochy of Eaton. "I could tell he wasn't the same out there the next inning. That's why he came out."
Eaton (9-2) had won eight consecutive decisions since an April 16 setback to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
