Florida Marlins righthander Josh Beckett was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. The move is retroactive to June 15.
Beckett left Tuesday's game against Chicago because of the problem.
The 25-year-old righthander has had blister issues throughout his career and the latest forced him out in the sixth inning of Tuesday's 14-0 loss to the Cubs. He was tagged for four runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of the setback, dropping his record to 7-5 with a 3.35 earned run average for the season.
Beckett is on the DL for the eighth time since his rookie season of 2002. Six of those DL stints are blister-related. Last season, Beckett was on the disabled list three times, twice because of blister problems.
Florida recalled righthander Nate Bump from Albuquerque to replace Beckett on the roster.
Beckett was the 2003 World Series MVP.
