The Texas Rangers designated veteran pitcher Pedro Astacio for assignment on Friday. The Rangers now have 10 days to trade, release or outright Astacio to the minors.
Astacio went 2-8 in 12 starts with a 6.04 ERA for the Rangers in this his first season in Texas. The righthander lost seven of his last eight decisions.
Since making his major league debut with the Dodgers in 1992, Astacio is 120-117 with a 4.66 ERA in 363 games. He has also pitched for the Rockies, Astros, Mets and Red Sox. Astacio was signed by the Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 1987.
The Rangers purchased the contract of righthander Jason Standridge from Triple-A Oklahoma to take the roster spot.
