Seth Dhaenens stroked the go-ahead RBI double during a three-run eighth inning as Arizona State came from behind to defeat Tennessee, 4-2, in the College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The loss was the second for the Volunteers and eliminated them from the tournament.
Pat Bresnehan (5-4) earned the win for ASU with 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief. He struck out one and allowed just two hits after coming in for starter Erik Averill.
Joey Hooft also smacked an RBI double and Travis Buck went 4-for-5 with an RBI for the Sun Devils, who were on the verge of elimination last week but beat defending champion Cal-State Fullerton in the Super Regional.
James Adkins (10-5) was dealt the loss for Tennessee, which lost to Florida in the first round. He went 7 1/3 innings in which he allowed four runs on eight hits, mixing in eight strikeouts with five walks.
Trailing 2-1 in the eighth, Tuffy Gosewisch got things started for Arizona State with a leadoff single before taking third on Zechry Zinicola's base hit. Hooft and Dhaenens followed with their extra-base hits to plate two runs and give the Sun Devils a 3-2 advantage.
J.J. Sferra capped the scoring in the frame on his sacrifice fly that scored Hooft to make it 4-2.
J.P. Arencibia opened the scoring for the Volunteers with a solo home run in first inning before Josh Alley plated a run in the fifth on his double.
After being shutout by Adkins over the first six innings, Buck's RBI single in the seventh finally got the Sun Devils on the board.
In the late game, Florida defeated Nebraska, 7-4. Jeff Corsaletti led the way for the Gators, ending 4-for-5 with two runs batted in and three runs scored. Corsaletti also tied a CWS record with three doubles, becoming the seventh player to achieve the feat.
The Cornhuskers are still alive and will battle Arizona State in Tuesday's game. Florida will meet the winner of that matchup on Wednesday.
Adam Davis added a two-run homer for the Gators, who have won seven straight games.
Tommy Boss started for Florida and yielded four runs in 4 2/3 innings, but reliever Darren O'Day (8-3) picked up the win with 4 1/3 scoreless frames.
Ryan Wehrle drove in a pair of runs for the Cornhuskers, who had a 10-game win streak halted.
Johnny Dorn (12-2) was saddled with the loss after yielding four runs -- three earned -- in four innings.
Florida grabbed a 2-0 lead on Davis' homer in the top of the first and the Gators would hold a lead for the rest of the game.
The score stood at 3-2 before the Gators scored four times in the fifth inning. Corsaletti and Brian Jeroloman each had two-run doubles in the big inning for Florida.
Wehrle added a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be the last run for either team.
