The Texas Rangers have placed outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left hamstring.
Matthews was hurt in Saturday's game against Minnesota while running out a ground ball.
In 32 games this season, Matthews is batting .250 with one home run and eight runs batted in.
The Rangers filled the roster spot by purchasing the contract of outfielder Andres Torres from Triple-A Oklahoma, where he was batting .302 in 15 games.
