Righthander Pedro Astacio was released by the Texas Rangers Tuesday, just days after the 14-year veteran was designated for assignment by the club.
Astacio was 2-8 in 12 starts with a 6.04 ERA for the Rangers in this his first season in Texas. He lost seven of his last eight decisions.
Since making his major league debut with the Dodgers in 1992, Astacio is 120-117 with a 4.66 ERA in 363 games. He has also pitched for the Rockies, Astros, Mets and Red Sox. Astacio was signed by the Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 1987.
The Rangers had 10 days to trade, release or outright Astacio to the minors after designating him for assignment on Friday.
