The Chicago Cubs recalled pitcher Jerome Williams from Triple-A Iowa and the righthander was victorious in his debut with the club Tuesday night.
Williams (1-2) allowed two runs on three hits over seven strong innings in a 4-2 Cubs victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.
Williams, who came to the Cubs' organization from San Francisco as part of the trade that jettisoned reliever LaTroy Hawkins to the West Coast on May 28, has been working at Triple-A Iowa since the exchange. In four games, he went 1-1 with a 2.22 ERA for Iowa.
Ironically, Williams' last major league start came on April 24 against Milwaukee, as he was tagged for nine hits and six runs over five innings of work. Williams fanned five and didn't walk anyone in the game. His poor performance in the contest got him sent to the minor leagues.
In 47 career major league contests (46 starts), Williams is 17-14 with a 3.93 ERA.
To make room for Williams, Chicago outrighted left-handed pitcher Cliff Bartosh to Iowa.
