Chase Gerdes scored the tying run and Zach Dillon followed him home for the winning run on a throwing error by Tulane second baseman Joe Holland as Baylor came storming back to defeat the Green Wave, 8-7, in a College World Series elimination game from Rosenblatt Stadium.
Trailing 7-5 in the ninth inning, Josh Ford started the Bears rally with a single, was pinch-run for by Jeff Mandel before Reid Brees singled off Tulane reliever Sean Morgan. Gerdes then pinch-ran for Brees and Dillon laced a double down the right-field line to score Mandel and make it a 7-6 game.
Brandon Gomes then came on to pitch and intentionally walked Kevin Russo before he got Seth Fortenberry to pop out. Paul Witt then hit a ground ball to Holland, who stepped on second base but his throw to first was short and bounced past Micah Owings, allowing Russo and Gerdes to score.
Abe Woody (10-3) earned the win after the late-inning heroics, hurling 4 1/3 shutout innings of relief where he yielded two hits and struck out three. The Bears won their 12th game of the season in their final at-bat.
Morgan (6-1) did not record an out for the Green Wave and absorbed the loss. He was touched for two runs -- one earned -- on two hits in the bottom of the ninth.
Michael Griffin collected two hits and drove in three runs for Baylor (46-23), which will face Texas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. (et).
Mark Hamilton blasted a two-run home during a six-run second inning for Tulane (56-12), which was eliminated with the loss.
Earlier in the day, J.J. Sferra's RBI single with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted Arizona State past Nebraska, 8-7, in the first elimination game of the day.
Jeff Larish belted three solo homers for the Sun Devils, including a game- tying shot in the bottom of the ninth inning. He also scored four times.
Arizona State (41-24) stayed alive in the CWS and will have to beat Florida twice to reach the championship series. The teams will square off on Wednesday at 2 p.m. (et).
Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers (57-15) were eliminated. Andy Gerch finished 3- for-6 with a three-run homer for Nebraska.
In the Sun Devils 11th, Joey Hooft led off with a single against Brett Jensen, who was lifted for Tony Watson. After Seth Dhaenens sacrificed Hooft to second, Sferra delivered his game-winning bloop hit to right-center.
Zechry Zinicola tossed two scoreless innings for the win, while Jensen took the loss.
