The San Diego Padres placed first baseman Phil Nevin on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained left oblique muscle. The move is retroactive to June 21.
Nevin has not played since June 20 against Los Angeles because of the injury, but still leads the club in runs batted in with 47. In 66 games this season, he is batting .268 with nine homers and 30 runs scored.
Meanwhile, the Padres recalled outfielder Ben Johnson from Triple-A Portland. Johnson hit .299 for the Beavers with 17 home runs and 49 RBI in 73 games.
