Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz continues to lead the balloting among American League players for this year's All-Star Game, which will take place Tuesday, July 12 at Detroit's Comerica Park.
The starters and reserves for the contest will be named this Sunday.
Ortiz leads all vote-getters with 2,358,552, which is approximately 1.76 million more than Baltimore's Rafael Palmeiro, who is second at the DH spot.
Boston catcher Jason Varitek (1,615,381) and Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez (1,697,604) lead their positions. Vladimir Guerrero (1,605,068) of the Angels and Ichiro Suzuki (1,564,660) of the Mariners are second and third, respectively, among outfielders.
Mark Teixeira of the Texas Rangers has taken the lead at first base. He has drawn 1,077,715 votes. New York Yankees first baseman Tino Martinez, who had led every round of balloting, is now behind Teixeira with 932,968 votes.
Baltimore's Brian Roberts (1,523,791) holds a slim lead on Texas' Alfonso Soriano (1,419,139) at second base, while the Orioles' Miguel Tejada (1,824,209) paces all shortstops.
Alex Rodriguez (2,005,668) of the Yankees holds a hefty lead on Bill Mueller (709,133) of the Red Sox at third base.
